Mitu Monteiro

Mitu, or also known by his birthname Oteniel Jorge Monteiro, was born in Cape Verde in 1983. Since his childhood, he has always revealed a passion for the sea.

Early on he became a 360deg athlete, known internationally for his competence but first and foremost for his humility. When you start from nothing everything is difficult and everything is an immense goal.

He started on scratch and little by little,with a lot of hard work and training, he became a world champion and has helped pioneer the strapless kitesurfing discipline. Mitu has also now set up two successful kitesurfing centres. Simple curiosity and determination got him started on the ride of his life and defined his career.

Mitu is no stranger to competition. He has been competing since 2000, initially in the Windsurf World Cup and since 2008, he has maintained a position on the Podium of the Kitesurf World Championship. He has won the Wave World Championship and been Vice World Champion on 3 occasions.

Mitu is one of the founders of the KSP World Tour, the waveriding dedicated tour, which is the only tour recognized by the IKA ( International Kiteboarding Association).

Since 2005 he has been one of the top riders for F-One International, a leading company in the kite industry.

In 2011 he launched his own Brand Wear "MITU" and opened his first shop in Sal. Having already been the manager of one successful Kite School in Santa Maria, February 2012 saw Mitu's long awaited dream come true the opening of The Kite Beach Club - School, Bar & Restaurant. This is the first kite school ever to be located on the whole East Coast of Sal. A paradise welcoming thousands of riders each season.

In addition to being an active kite boarding instructor and a full time competitor, Mitu finds time to travel the world taking part in photoshoots, videos and events.

Achievements
