Brazil Down Wind Adventures 2018

Brazil Down Wind Adventures 2018

Uncharted Kite Sessions returns to Brazil again this fall with Surfin Sem Fim for another epic season of down wind kite surfing experiences along the beautiful Brazilian north coast. Previous years epic journeys have been featured in The Kite Mag and Kite Soul Magazines, and this year promises to be even more spectacular.
This year Uncharted Kite Sessions offers two routes, the Light Jeri, and the Delta Routes. The Light Jeri is a fantastic warm up for the waves and wind of the north coast as a short down wind experience between Prea to Camocim.
Our other trips focuses on the challenging and rewarding section of travel known as the Delta Routes. This section of coastline is over 400 kilometers long, and is one of the most multifaceted of the Brazilian down wind trips. We begin our journey in Preá, traveling along the coast to Atins, a small fishing village that sits on the edge of the Amazon jungle and Lençois dunes.
We specifically chose this route along the north coast for our annual kite surfing down winder as it offers the best waves on the entire north coast. Every year this section of the coastline blows us away with it’s unbelievable beauty, remoteness, and above all the amazing wind and wave conditions that are world class. Imagine yourself kite surfing for hundreds of kilometers, discovering exotic natural treasures, hidden dunes and unspoiled beaches.
You’ll be living this real adventure in comfort while recharging overnight in the best pousadas in Brazil. Riding fantastic distances in safety, always supervised by professional guides and receiving coaching from Uncharted Kite Sessions & Surfin Sem Fim kite surf teams.
The Brazilian coast from Ceará to Maranhão receives constant daily trade winds, ensuring a high quality sailing experience during the entire wind season. This is the only place on earth to kite surf along hundreds of kilometers of untouched coastline, feeling confident about the wind and water conditions.
This is a true adventure. The coaches will have the freedom to ride along the group and spend time with every rider. Strategic meeting points are chosen to stop the vehicles to allow us to hydrate our bodies with healthy beverages and food, as well as to freshen up our memory about the sailing ahead. This is a once in a lifetime adventure, and a transformative experience.
Join Uncharted Kite Sessions in Brazil for an unbelievable kite surfing experience that you’ll remember for the rest of your life. This is truly an Uncharted adventure.

The park has more than 400 archaeological sites and the largest concentration of rock paintings in the world, in a landscape dominated by canyons and caatinga vegetation.

  • Strength Of Wind

Brazilian spring, being North American fall, are statistically the windiest months of the year with average daily winds ranging around twenty-five plus knots. Most people ride from five to twelve meter kites depending on weight. The wind is predominantly from the east, as is the swell. But as it is Mother Nature, and she is unpredictable, it is better to have a kite and not need it, than to need a kite and not have it.

  • Wind & Climate

With an average temperature over 30°C (86°F) in the fall, Brazil sun is very intense. Be sure to bring lots of sunscreen with high UV protection. Zinc is always a good idea. Long sleeve UV protection jerseys are also a good idea. Also bring a water hat that can attach to your clothing. If you are used to riding with sunglasses, it is a good idea to bring them.

Uncharted Brazil – Itaqui to Ilha dos Poldros

Bruna Arcangelo, Ilha dos PoldrosWe completed our century ride, kiting more than one hundred kilometers along the Brazilian coast in one day. We also went back in time over a century. Life along our route has been sparse and infrequent. We are the only people, or civilized life along the route. But there is plenty of wildlife. Today we are leaving the state of Ceará, completely crossing the entire state of Piauí, and arriving in the sate of Maranhāo located on the edge of the Amazon jungle. Soon the dunes will start to transform into the lush jungle of one of the most magnificent ecosystems on the planet. And we'll only touch the edge.

Uncharted Brazil – Jeri to Jeri...

Uncharted Kite Sessions Brazil 2015Swollen and puffy eyes like I went seven rounds with Mike Tyson look back at me in the mirror. My legs are limp noodles. I hear the hypnotic rhythm of the Forró band playing in my head, and my brain is still repeating to itself, two left, two right, spin, doh!! Fail.

Uncharted Brazil – Arpoeiras to Jeri

Bruna Arcangelo SSF - Day 4 - Preá - Mitu-MonteiroWe're going the wrong way! Vila Kalango is not this way. It's 3am and Mitu assures me as we stroll down the sand filled streets of Jericoacoara that he knows the route home. But I know he's lying to me by his sideways grin. We turn the corner to see the only lit building still open, the late night padaria. We're stopping in for midnight munchies, known as larica in Portuguese. Midnight munchies snacks consist of fresh baked bread topped with either chocolate, bananas or cheese. The padaria is only open from 2am till 7am for the sole purpose of feeding inebriated souls like ours returning from a night of dancing at the Forró.

Uncharted Brazil – Icarai to Arpoeiras

Uncharted Kite Sessions BrazilAs I stare at the giant flippers sticking off the end of the bed I think to myself, man does Norm ever have big feet. He slumbers away in the bed next to me, sawing logs while falling asleep listening to poker on the radio. Who falls asleep listening to radio poker? With a couple of grunts and farts, he wakes, pulls back his beauty mask to reveal his puffy swollen eyes, and gives me the middle finger with a smile. Good morning! He wears the beauty mask every night to sleep, but I don't have the heart to tell him that it isn't helping. He's still ugly. But the perfect bunk mate on this epic journey. We keep each other humble with the endless ball busting. He's a unique cat to say the least, and one super cool dude.
